Basic Practical Microbiology

The University of Aberdeen will host a CPD event for Microbiology Technicians and Teachers.  The course is intended to provide professional development in basic microbiology laboratory work and school microbiology safety.  The course is suitable both for complete beginners and staff wishing to brush up their practical microbiology skills.  The event will provide participants with 'hands on' experience of good microbiological laboratory practice (GMLP) to ensure that school microbiology investigations proceed safely.  The laboratory-based practical course is designed for those who have had little experience in this field.

Course Aims

This CPD event will cover all the essential aspects of school microbiology including:

  • basic training in the techniques needed to carry out microbiology investigations safely in school
  • preparation and sterilisation of equipment and culture media
  • aseptic technique
  • maintenance and growth of cultures
  • methods of disposal

Fees

The course will cost £85.00 per person; fees include course notes, a sandwich lunch and refreshments.
