Mediated Teaching & Learning Course
17 th & 18 th February 2009Location to be confirmed
Mediated Learning Experience (MLE) describes a specific type and quality of interaction between the teacher and pupil where the teacher emphasises the process of learning how to learn. MLE ensures positive aspirations for all learners and focuses on the development of cognitive, affective and social skills as well as metacognitive skills. MLE helps to develop flexible learners to prepare them for learning in a changing future. MLE has strong links to a Curriculum for Excellence and is based within the ideas of Professor Reuven Feuerstein. For more information on the work of Feuerstein see www.icelp.org A two day professional development course is offered to primary teachers. The main aim of this course is to provide information and practice as to the parameters of teacher mediation that create a mediated learning experience for pupils. This will be set within an understanding of Feuerstein's learning theory.
The course structure will involve two consecutive days followed by a period of time in which to practise some of the mediational parameters before a visit to each school is made to support individual teachers with the development of this work.
